What is the JCR?

The JCR (Junior Common Room) refers both to the physical room in college and also the undergraduate student body, which is run like a mini student union. We have a committee who are elected by the JCR members to represent their issues to college, sit on committees, manage the budget, arrange events and send you lots of emails.

Meetings: Fortnightly, Fridays of odd weeks in term, 5:30pm in the Habbakuk room. Everyone is welcome! (We also have free pizza for you)

Elections: The JCR committee is elected at the end of Michelmas term. We also have subcommittees for Access and Equal Opportunities.

Diversity and Inclusivity

It is vital that every student at Jesus College has the opportunity to thrive here. The JCR has an equal opportunities sub-committee dedicated to ensuring that college life is accessible for all and to represent and support specific groups in our community.

Submit a motion

Any member of the JCR may submit a motion, following these steps:

1. Download the motion template below under Documents.

2. Fill it out with your request to the JCR

3. Send it to the JCR secretary at least 24 hours before the JCR meeting

3. Attend the JCR meeting to vote, and encourage others to attend as well

4. The motion will pass if a majority vote in favour of passing

If you have any questions, contact the Secretary at any time. If you are a fresher, the freshers rep can help you as well.

The only exception to this process are motions for constitutional changes. They need a quorum of 25 and a 2/3 majority to pass. Download and read the constitution below for further details.
